1. Run Splash.exe (default path: C:\Program Files\Trickster Online\Splash.exe) or your desktop shortcut.

2. The patch client will come up and should patch the game. You can see tidbits of the "lastest" news, but you will have to click on the text to be taken to the full article. In the upper left corner is your current client version.


3. This step is optional. Once the game has patched completely, you can choose to change your options by clicking on the Option button. A configuration window will pop up.


3a. Screen settings. Checking the Full Screen Mode box will allow Trickster to run full-screen rather than in a window. There are only two resolution (size, in pixels) choices: 800x600 and 1024x768. Choose the resolution based on what your computer's resolution is set at; you won't be able to see the full game if you pick 1024x768 while running on an 800x600 resolution for your computer.


3b. Graphics. Turning off these settings may help your computer run faster if it's going slowly or can't fully handle the fancy extra effects, or if you simply don't like the effects.


3c. Sound. These settings allow you to change sample rate (22050 kHz and 44100 kHz), bits (8 bit and 16 bit), channels (8 channel, 16 channel, 32 channel, 48 channel), and whether to play sound at all. A sample rate of 44100 kHz is considered CD quality.


3d. Screen shot. In game, press the Prt Scrn (Print Screen) button to take a screenshot; you may have to hold it down for about a second. A camera shutter sound will signal that the screenshot has been taken. Screenshots are located in a folder in your Trickster folder (default path: "C:\Program Files\Trickster Online\capture\). Format choices are JPG and BMP; BMPs tend to be much larger files. If you pick JPG, you can choose what quality of screenshots. Very High produces the clearest ones, naturally, and makes the largest JPG files out of all the quality types.


3e. PC Analysis. You can also look at your computer specs by clicking this button. Tech support may ask for your specs, so you can give them the text generated by it. Using it creates a text file in your Trickster folder (default path: "C:\Program Files\Trickster Online\MyComputerInfo.txt).


3f. Once you've configured Trickster to your liking, hit the OK button to save the settings.

4. If your game is fully patched and you are satisfied with your settings, you can now play. Click on the Start button to open the game client.


5. nProtect GameGuard will start up first with a Trickster splash screen. Once loaded and patched, the actual game client will launch and load. When that is loaded, click on the yellow (hovering over it turns it to blue) Game Start button.


6. Log in using your Trickster ID and password.


7. Now you will be taken to the server select screen. Jewelia is the only current server available, with islands ("channels") Pearl and Ruby. Players on different islands will not be able to communicate with someone on another island or see whether somebody on the other island is online. Pearl tends to be the most crowded and has more parties; Ruby is less populated. Characters on the Jewelia server can enter either the Pearl or Ruby islands. The only difference is who is playing there. The squares next to the islands indicate capacity: green is normal, yellow is somewhat full, red is full. Double click the island of your choice or select and press the Connect button to be taken to the character select screen.


8. You can now create characters or go in game. Check out the Getting Started guide by fujin for more help on that.
